What Non-Woven Fabric Actually Is

Non-woven polypropylene is made by bonding polypropylene fibres thermally rather than weaving them, producing a fabric-like sheet that resists tearing, repels water, and holds printed ink cleanly. It does not fray when cut, which allows edge-finished constructions without hemming, and it retains its shape better than thin woven materials. It is recyclable as a number 5 plastic and, critically, it is durable enough that a single bag genuinely displaces many single-use carriers over its life.

We supply weights from 70 GSM to 120 GSM. 70–80 GSM is the promotional and giveaway weight, ideal for exhibition delegate bags and event handouts where the bag carries brochures and light items. 90–100 GSM is the retail and grocery standard, capable of handling a full supermarket basket including bottles and tins. 110–120 GSM is a heavy-duty specification used for laminated shopper bags, hardware retail, and any application where the bag will be loaded to capacity repeatedly.

Construction Options

Handle configuration drives both usability and cost. Loop handles cut from the same fabric are the most economical and are heat-sealed or stitched at the top edge. Sewn strap handles in matching or contrasting fabric give higher load ratings and a more finished appearance. Long shoulder-length handles are specified for grocery and tote-style bags. D-cut handles punched directly through the top edge produce the cheapest carrier for very high-volume giveaways.

Bottom construction matters more than most buyers expect. A flat bag is cheapest but slumps when loaded. A gusseted bottom lets the bag stand open on a counter, which speeds up packing at a till. A box-bottom construction with an inserted base board gives the squarest, most premium presentation and is what we recommend for retail chains. Side gussets from 8cm to 20cm are specified according to the products being carried. Optional additions include internal pockets, zip closures, velcro flaps, bottle dividers, and thermal-lined compartments.

Printing and Branding

Screen printing is the standard branding method and is ideal for one- to four-colour logo work, giving strong, opaque coverage on any fabric colour including black. Heat transfer printing is used for detailed, multi-colour, or photographic artwork on smaller print areas. Lamination printing — where a full-colour printed film is laminated across the entire bag face — produces edge-to-edge photographic coverage with a glossy or matte finish and is the premium option for retail shopper bags. Sublimation is available on white polyester-based non-wovens for all-over dye printing.

We Pantone-match brand colours on both the fabric and the print. Because non-woven fabric is dyed rather than printed, colour selection is made from our fabric range at quotation stage; where an exact brand colour is essential and volumes justify it, custom fabric dyeing is possible with a longer lead time.

Sizes and Custom Specification

Standard sizes range from small 25x30cm document bags through 35x40cm shopper formats to 45x50cm grocery and exhibition bags, with any custom dimension available. If you send us the items the bag must carry, we will engineer the size around them. For exhibition organisers we frequently produce a single bag sized precisely to hold A4 catalogues flat, which avoids the folded-brochure problem that makes generic bags look untidy.

Minimum orders start at 100 pieces for screen-printed stock-colour bags, with substantial price improvements at 500, 1,000, 5,000, and 10,000 pieces. Standard production is five to seven working days after artwork approval for stock fabric colours; custom-dyed fabric and laminated full-colour constructions require ten to fourteen days. Pre-production samples are supplied on request for orders above 1,000 pieces so you can confirm fabric weight, handle strength, and print position before bulk manufacture.
