Materials and Base Construction

The base of a mouse pad is typically a rubber or foam layer that provides grip on the desk surface and cushioning under the wrist, topped with a fabric or coated surface that the mouse tracks across. We offer natural rubber bases, which give the firmest grip and longest lifespan, and foam bases, which are lighter and more cost-effective for high-volume giveaways. The rubber base thickness is generally 2mm to 5mm; thicker bases give a more substantial, premium feel and are recommended for executive gifting, while thinner bases suit mass giveaway quantities where unit cost is the priority.

The top surface comes in several finishes. A smooth woven polyester or lycra fabric surface gives the best colour reproduction for full-colour printed artwork and a soft, low-friction feel that suits optical and laser mice equally well. A textured cloth surface gives a more premium, fabric-like hand-feel and slightly more tracking precision for gaming or design-focused users. A hard, coated polyurethane or plastic surface gives maximum glide speed and durability and is preferred for gaming-oriented promotional items. Printing and Branding Techniques

Full-colour sublimation printing is the standard method for fabric-topped mouse pads and produces vivid, photographic-quality artwork that is permanently bonded into the fabric fibres rather than sitting on top of them, so it does not crack, peel, or fade with repeated wrist contact and cleaning. This makes sublimation the preferred technique for detailed logos, gradient backgrounds, campaign artwork, or full-bleed designs that cover the entire pad surface edge to edge. For PU leather-topped pads, debossing or foil stamping is used in the same way as on organizers and folios, giving a subtler, more executive branding treatment. Screen printing is available for simple one- or two-colour logos on hard-surface pads at lower cost for very large giveaway quantities.

Edges are typically stitched on fabric-topped pads to prevent fraying over the product's lifespan, or heat-sealed for a clean, seamless border on synthetic surfaces. Both methods are durable under normal office use and daily cleaning.

The standard rectangular mouse pad runs from a compact 200x180mm size suited to laptop-only desks through to a large 300x250mm size that gives comfortable room for both mouse and keyboard wrist movement. Extended desk mats, sized from 800x300mm up to full-desk 900x400mm formats, have become increasingly popular as a corporate gift because they cover the entire desk surface and give significantly more visible branding area, effectively turning the desk itself into part of the campaign. Custom die-cut shapes — circles, ovals, brand-specific silhouettes, or shapes that match a logo outline — are available where a standard rectangle does not suit the campaign, though custom shapes require a cutting die and carry a modest tooling cost and longer lead time.

Artwork Guidance

Full-bleed sublimation designs should be supplied at high resolution, at least 150 to 300 DPI at final size, with a small bleed allowance on all edges since the printed fabric is cut to the final pad shape after printing rather than before. Logos intended for debossing on PU-topped pads should be supplied as vector files with fine detail simplified in the same way as for leather organizers. Where a design will sit near the stitched or heat-sealed edge, we recommend keeping critical text and logo elements at least 5mm inside the trim line to avoid any risk of being cut or obscured by the edge finish.
